Monday, January 2, 2012 - From magnum. Having recently had a 91 Insignia that was tired at best, I was completely taken by surprise at this wine's youthfulness, depth, layered nuances and balance. Served blind I guessed the vintage correctly but thought this was Mouton instead of Insignia. It is a dead ringer for that wine. Gorgeous, polished, deep red and black fruit, lead pencil, touch of tobacco/leather, black olive and a pronounced minty note. Very youthful, packed palate with more black fruit, minerals, baker's chocolate. Amazingly deep, with superb balance and integration to a fine, long finish. A very special wine and about 180 degrees from the 91 we opened just a few weeks ago.
