95 Points

Saturday, October 8, 2005 - I have tried this wine 3 or 4 times and while I've always thought it was a very good wine, I never thought it merited the 95+ that everyone talks about. I have typically found this too obvious and even a little sweet.

Tonight at North Pond this wine was singing. Without decanting this was an absolutely beautiful drink- slightly sweet nose but not oaky, the palate was so rich, smooth, silk, with a little spice. The beautiful rich cassis flavor was present without being sweet. There was a subtle spicy side, terrific acidity and not much tannin.

Tonight this was a WOW wine. My wife looked at me after the first sip and commented, and even our friends who are complete non-winos (Alyssa and Jeremy) remarked what an excellent wine this was. To me, worthy of 95pts, or even more. I just shudder to think this could be a 96 or 97 pt wine, I just don't give out those kind of scores.
