Saturday, August 30, 2008 - I've now had this wine 4 times since release. It's the wine that got me into wine so it holds a special place for me. The fact that its a great wine helps too. The last time was in 2006 for our anniversary and my wife and I thought at that time it was in peak form. We were so sad when the bottle was gone, we'd wish there was more. This time it did not disappoint, saddle leather, rich raspberry, charred cedar and cassis on the nose. In the mouth, the tannins are totally resolved and the wine is smooth as silk. The wine has held up well. I believe it is now on the back side of its peak drinking shape for 750 ml bottles. The 97 will bring enjoyment for another 5 years, but the fruit is losing its vibrancy and now the more mature bordeaux like charactersitics (with a cali flair) are coming through.
