Sometimes I think that is BS, but in this case, the wine did jump out of the glass with a hint of skunk, earth, anise/licorice and berry. On warming, the skunk, thankfully, blew off quite quickly (reduction?) to reveal a more even nose, not actually quite as nice or complex but still good. That nose was more minty/licorice with a slighty musty, earthy odor that was not unpleasant, despite my description. Very well integrated, mature but still bright flavors of blue fruit, mint, oak, scotch (barrel?) with quite refined and pleasant, easy finishing tannin and just enough acidity to make it zing. Really quite nice, although I would not spend $200 retail on it, maybe in a restaurant if someone else was paying.
