Friday, November 8, 2019 - Musigny 2001 - pure great burgundy nose. For me it Has this signature aroma that all great B’s have. High toned. Precise, beguiling. Perfumed. Palate is airy, all encompassing. Pure kaleidoscopic fruits, a coolness and precision on the palate. This needed a lot more time in air and after leaving a decent pour in a burg zalto for an extended period, the firm finish softened out. That being said, this will definitely benefit from more time in cellar for sure. I would describe it like listening to a classical symphony on a car radio and just as you are getting to the crescendo you drive through a tunnel and the finale is muffled with white noise. Air helped in part to smooth this. so if you are going to open one - give it at least 6 hours with air - or if you have the patience leave it for another 5 years to age in bottle, you’ll be enjoying the full symphony. Interestingly of all the 2001 grand crus from Madame - this is the one that is showing the youngest and most restrained. RSV, Cham, CV, LC, all much more open at this stage.

98++ (this is undoubtedly a future hall of famer)

Bottle no. 251/596
