Friday, April 8, 2011 - Found a few bottles in my cellar, almost forgotten about it at a corner. Did a search on the internet, pleasantly surprised by its peer reviews. I think I vaguely remembered opening a bottle during one of the anniversary ocassions, may be 5-8 years ago. So, uncorked a bottle, cork soaked to the top, though still intact. Let it settle for 2 hours. Initial fragrance of flower, honey, and rose, of course a strong musty undertone. Decanted it. Pretty closed at first. Complex, roast nuts, honey, flowers, rose, with hints of smoke oak. Leathery feel on palate, layers of fresh fruits, sweet likened to overripe-melon, firm acid and tight alcohol finish. Corked back on, put it in the fridge, maybe better 2moro.
NEXT day- Similar aromas notes, but more intense. It does take its own sweet time to open up its layers of personality. Fruity palate more intense on palate, overripe sweetness, honey, acid almost disappeared, smoother finish.
3rd Day- Aroma fruits note fading after peaking at day 2. Sweetness fading on palate, alcohol more prominent on finish.
I think I going to keep the next 3 bottles for another 5-10 years and will update on tasting notes. I seriously can't remember how much I pay for this, not expensive I think in my early days of wine collecting. A rare find, I wonder anybody outthere still have a 1939 bottle
