Thursday, April 29, 2010 - 1998 Burgundy Grand Crus - Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin Singapore, Chapitre de la Printemps (Harbour Grill, Hilton Hotel): Pretty good wine, identifiable as a Charmes, but not a great one for sure. Nose was floral and perfumy on the one hand, but had low notes of funky earth, savoury mushroom and meat, along with some smoky, toasty scents. Palate was marked with cool red fruit, fine tannins, juicy acidity and more of spice. Decent depth I thought, but not great on the complexity department. Finish had some length, but seemed to thin on a little, leaving a sense of clunky tannins sprinkled over with minty herbs, spice and just that touch of orange peel. A nice wine, but I would expect more from the terroir.
