Monday, December 29, 2014 - Drank as part of this group:

2009 Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay – 92
2001 Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cepages – 94
2007 Ramey Cabernet Larkmead Vineyard – 93
2009 Alto Moncayo Garnacha – 94 - 95
2006 Produttori del Barbaresco, Lot 10.155 – 91

We drank these wines with friends over a simple dinner of smoked salmon and crackers followed by grilled burgers, tuna steaks, roasted potatoes and steamed kale. All were popped and poured. Most of us drank at least a little of each.

The 2009 Alto Moncayo was my favorite. With this, my third bottle of the stuff, I am beginning to see where Parker gave it a 100. I think he was looking to the future. I am raising my score to 94/95 as it has a wonderful core of vanilla, butter, and hints of oak wrapped with the delicate Grenache flavors of spice, black pepper and thyme. It flows over the tongue and opens up over 45 seconds or so. Everyone that tasted it had to stop for a minute and say “Oh!” It was easily the most discussed wine of the night, though the Cabernets won the hearts of most people.
