Wednesday, May 6, 2020 - This is a revision to my review of 11/29/19. Today's bottle is significantly better than that earlier one. This one tastes more like what I think of as Groth, with significant yet subdued dark fruit and acid in balance, along with still-strong tannins and evident oak. Not nearly at the end of its window, contrasting my previous note. It may hold up until 2024 or even longer, although that may depend on the individual bottle. The earlier bottle was too acidic with weak fruit; perhaps some air had leaked past the cork long ago and caused oxidation? Anyway, I'm glad to see that this is, after all, a decent vintage for Groth reserve.
