Sunday, March 29, 2020 - Base neck fill, 4 hour double decant before starting in on the bottle, consumed over 2 hours. Excellent color, still quite lustrous red with bronze and onion skin highlights.

Dusty on the nose, almost piquant with limestone minerality, lots of tar base notes, along with notes of pressed flowers, caraway, and a slight dirty barrel note which resolves fairly well with hints of porcini and dried red cherry.

Tannins are sufficient for structure but are really quite well melded with the slightly richer than midweight body here. Acidity is high but not out of proportion, lending this juicines and a sense of freshness. It's past peak on the palate, still has fruit but not fruity, complex with inner mouth perfumes of flowers, spices, iron and earth which show decent length. and a minty, slightly vegetal highlight on the finale. There's a certain sense of density to the finish that lead one to imagine what this was not too long ago: more powerful with greater palate impact. Appreciate it for its cerebral reward.

Still this is quite good a lends a moment of happiness to corona virus lock down.
