Tuesday, July 1, 2014 - We don't drink much Aussie Shiraz in this household but I opened this since we had two antipodean ladies at the dinner table who've never tasted their country's most famous wine. (Neither have I...) Despite the high expectations, the wine did not disappoint. Decanting it 6 hours before, I was overcome by lush expressive fumes of Shiraz that filled the air around me, dark cherry, iron, spice box, flowers. Rich and elegant on the palate, the fine grained tannins are beautifully integrated with the deep, smoky black fruity layers. While by no means a lightweight, it is refined and slightly understated in a manner that reminds me of cote rotie. Would love to try it again in 10 years time, will be on the lookout for another bottle!
