93 Points

Wednesday, February 22, 2023 - My last bottle. Double decanted and back into the bottle, then served from the bottle several hours later. Black. Cassis, dark fruits and oak on the nose. Full bodied, rich, dark fruits and initially (on retasting not so much) complex in the palate, with low acidity and a flattering flavor profile. This needs more time or a lot more air. At 33 years old. This is an excellent to outstanding wine, but it is not showing its best tonight - judgment reserved. Served alongside three wines (at least the latter two of which are showing better now - but that may not be the case with more air/time): the 1989 Cos, the 1990 La Conseillante and the 1990 L'Evangile, at Bill's Bordeaux Dinner. Willl revisit the small sample that I took home this or tomorrow evening. ADDENDUM: Day 2, in glass for another hour. Ruby. Oak on the nose. Rich dark fruits. Lacking the minerality that was evident in the Pomerols last night but very delicious. Still, I initially thought this would be a 96+ pointer. Maybe at age 40. (93+).
