Sunday, January 22, 2012 - Lovely 89! I decided to open it at the last minute before tossing together a rack of lamb dinner for myself and my wife. I let it stand on end for about 45 minutes and decanted in to a large, flat bottom decanter for maximum surface area. The wine sat in there for about an hour as I cooked. First nose after an hour was very tight, like another poster stated, pencil lead. Swirling in my glass, the second nose showed signs of excellence! After another 30 minutes this wine started to really open up and it's lovely! Complex nose of spices, currents and cassis with a decent amount of fruit for a claret, maybe due to it's young age. I have to disagree with other posters who are saying this wine is ready now. I think in another five to ten years, we will be raving about this 89. This wine has so much life left in it and I look forward to visiting it again.
