91 Points

Sunday, April 12, 2015 - After drinking recently the 2001 Bin 890, which remains the best Rioja, new or old style, I have tasted, and several times the 2001 Bin 904, a lesser, inconsistent but wonderful old style powerhouse, I was disappointed by the 2004. It may just be that it needs more age.

This wine has more corpulence, some stewed red and black fruit in the center, but less of the Classic clay ring and tawny color/ taste of the La Rioja style. Tobacco, leather, cherry and earth were all there, so I am hoping to revisit this in a few years. While the 2001 904 is ready, the 890 from that excellent vintage is just beginning to open. So the 2004, another fine vintage , may develop yet.

    4/19/2015 7:01:00 AM - Hi again,
I tried just as barrel sample long ago. In my modest view gonna be one if the biggest ever. Unhappy because I only have three bottles in my cave.
    Cheers!
