96 Points

Sunday, December 27, 2015 - Extremely good. Strong aromas of tar, mushrooms, cured meat, wild blackberry, balsamic vinegar, tobacco, and oak. This is one of those rare wines that's more fun to smell than to drink. It's classic rioja in the mouth, full of juicy, citrusy acidity with interwoven oaky tannins. The wine has a pronounced wild element that is reminiscent of a Belgian lambic. The finish includes minerality, leathery tannins, and citrus.

This is a very special wine that won't be a crowd pleaser but will please fans of savory, complex, non-fruit-forward wines. There is no better wine to display the positive influences of aging in American oak.

12/27/2015 11:33:00 PM - Thanks for your note and rating. Wow, 96!? We like it, especially the QPR, but we were a little more conservative on the rating. We notice your comment "...won't be a crowd pleaser...", but we can tell you the "crowd" where we first tasted (Hong Kong Golf Open 2015) were stunned. The wine merchant made believers of more than a lot of people on that day...including us ;-)
