Tuesday, January 11, 2022 - Decanted 1.5 hours. Port-like and sluggish immediately upon opening but that blew-off with air revealing a classic Rioja profile of dark fruit, figs, and with more coaxing, some smoky earthy mushroom notes. Plenty of acid to round things out, too. Similar experience on the palate with red berries wrapped in soil and leather. Very few rough edges with fruit and earth mingling in a lovely way. Just enough tannic bite at the way back for freshness. Terrific package. Paired nicely with roasted duck with a blood orange reduction. Drink now or hold another 2-4 years.
