Tuesday, July 28, 2015 - Bought off a store shelf, library release? Anyway, sweet, slightly roasted black cherry fruit, a little volatile, some chocolate, and a hint of olive on the nose. The palate is kind of an odd mix between the slightly roasted chocolate fruit and high acid and plentiful fine tannins that are ripe and not bitter but drying. There's not enough fruit concentration to stand up to the structure. Food helps only a little. It finishes short and tart and drying from the structure. IIRC 2003 was a tough vintage in CA, but this bottle doesn't transcend the vintage conditions.
