88 Points

Saturday, February 13, 2016 - Lighter ruby/garnet color, about 60% opaque. A wide, clear meniscus and very slow legs with a tiny portion of sediment in the bottle. Low-level aroma featuring red berry jam and licorice, sweet tobacco, fennel, and a bit of river stone. The alcohol is unavoidable but much less offensive than the bottle I had a year ago. Palate is consistent with the bouquet and the minerality shows up with nice graphite and a little umami. Smoother and stretching out longer into the finish than before, this probably still has better days ahead. Although I don't know if it will ever fully kick the abv intrusion. 4+11+15+8= 88
