Wednesday, October 31, 2007 - First time I have tried a nicely aged merlot of some substantial quality.
I can't say I didn't enjoy the wine of course, however I wanted to see something more than this displayed.
The notes of blueberry and other dark berries weren't as potent as I enjoy out of younger merlots I suppose.
There were expressive aromas of vanilla, espresso, tobacco leaf and soft sweet spice.
The palate was silky, but still not what I imagined out of a PR Bancroft from '97.
The finish was relatively long with excellent balance of acidity, tannins and alcohol.
I can't wait to try my more recent vintage, the 2003.
