Tuesday, January 31, 2012 - Now this one crept up on me like a stealth ninja. There I was idly going about my own business expecting a fairly so-so regional French white and then this pops out of the bottle - like a strutting peacock or exotic bird from the Amazonian rainforest when I was expecting a scabby common-or-garden pigeon. Great waxy nose of banana, ripe tropical fruits, clarified butter, and dirt - gritty, dry soil. This has earth in there. And mango and peaches and ...minerals. This is not some sweet, gloop-fest - there is real wine making here. This is different, dazzling and wonderfully unexpected. A kind of hybrid of Musar-blanc meets St Veran meets a rich Chablis. And it costs less than a tenner. Pffft - what is not to like? Great stuff.
