Friday, May 14, 2010 - Simple Series IV: Dave's Birthday (Victoria Peak, Orchard Central): Quite the rarity - a really old Dominus. A pretty good wine here, and still going strong. Nose was somewhere in-between a right-bank Bordeaux and a new world cab, with sweet plums, cassis, tobacco, earthy sous bois and a little whiff of glycerol swimming around. Pretty attractive. Palate showed surprisingly youthful, with clean, high-toned cassis flavours wrapped up in a soft, lush, plush fruitiness. Good weight here. Tannins were still evident, but they were rather fine and nicely resolved. Finish was decent, with some powdery spice and pencil lead notes. Not the most profound of wines, but pretty good indeed - it certainly did not seem out of place in rather distinguished old-world company.
