91 Points

Thursday, July 24, 2014 - Ordered by the glass at the Wine & View Bar at Helsinki Airport. The first pour was from a bottle that had been open for a few days (under inert gas). The wine was medium garnet in colour and offered a very expressive and appetising nose of dark flowers, red fruit, dried cherry, spices, mushroom as well as earthy and balsamic notes. The wine seemed reasonably balanced, slightly oxidized and tired, and overall a little underwhelming. (90)

The second pour was from a newly opened bottle. The wine still was medium garnet in colour and equally appetising, but very tight and closed, and did not really open-up over thirty minutes in the glass. This sample offered red fruit, earthy notes and an iron component on the reserved nose, and red fruit, red cherry, spices, mushroom and earthy notes on the tight palate. This second sample was even more balanced than the first pour and it did not show any signs of oxidation. (91)

Both samples were medium-bodied, with medium-level acidity, medium-plus well-integrated tannin and very good length. Overall, however, I was a little underwhelmed by this wine.
