95 Points

Thursday, August 23, 2012 - Lovely contemplative wine. Brick red color, as am aged barolo should be. Nose had lovely tertiary notes of menthol and pink pepper, almost like an northern rhone red, that are starting to show through the overwhelming scent of roses and hints of the classic tar scent as well as cedar. Still fairly structured with high acidity but the tannins just melt away as the wine flows over the palate. The fruit was classic barolo red fruit, especially cherries, with orange zest and tobacco coming through on the 45 second finish. The palate played second to the seductive and powerful nose, but the fruit is so fresh it could easily last another decade. If I can find more, I will buy more. This stuff is amazing!
