Community Tasting Note

Friday, January 23, 2015 - This wine was just odd.
I alternated between deciding it was corked (a rarity for Carlisle) and it was just one weird syrah. This was my first Sierra Mar, and was nothing like the Sonoma County I've had in the past.
Our group decided that this was dominated by a green olive note, and a few people picked up a briney note (prior to reading the CT notes). These aromas seem in line with most of the recent CT notes, so maybe this is just how this wine tastes. If so, this is unlike any Cali syrah I've ever had. Also interesting that the first 12 CT notes have no mention of olive and then 6 of the last 11 do.
One of the group loved this bottle and will be buying my Sierra Mar allocation I just purchased, so maybe it's a style thing.
In summary, this syrah was either not my style or flawed.
