Wednesday, May 18, 2016 - I did not have high expectations for this wine given the combination of age and average vintage. This wine is, in many ways, a tribute both to excellence in winemaking that you will find in some establishments and "old school" winemaking in Medoc.
No, this wine is not trying to wrap you in jam or layers of oak or even a rich texture. The wine is certainly on the leaner side with pleasant herbal, spicy and earthy aromas, BUT it is well made and harmonious. Is anyone making wine like this today? The tannins are resolved and must have been tight years ago. Incredible accomplishment for average vintage after 49 years.....
