Thursday, April 8, 2021 - Cork, 14.5% alc. Opaque, dark red with some minor bricking. Perfect cork.
There is a dense and one-dimensional aroma upon opening. The nose comes alive with air to reveal mulberry, blackcurrant, mint, florals, tobacco, pencil shavings, polished timber cupboard, and a slight alcohol lift.
Still rather fruity, and richly fruited at that. But not exuberant; more elegant. Some gloss at the front of the palate, then whoosh – it expands and envelopes the rest of the mouth, surging again - before finishing again with the same gloss and freshness. Powdery tannins are assertive; this must have been incredibly dry and tannic upon release. Long finish. Throws a lot of fine sediment.
Opinion: Impressive Coonawarra Cabernet. Probably at the start of its drinking window, for me. Drink over the next decade and give a solid decant upon opening.
