Friday, February 3, 2023 - The '58 is an incredibly beautiful wine, and somehow, it remains a powerhouse at over 60 years of age. Of a trio of older vintages ('55, '58, '64), this came across to me as the cleanest wine and clearly the most powerful.

The nose is intensely perfumed with sweet fresh red roses, fresh mint, dried red cherry fruits, roasted meats, and spices. On the palate, it is medium bodied with a feeling of intensity and power that is shocking in a wine of its age. The power of the wine is balanced by the sweetness of the fruit and floral tones, and the lively acidity, which here is in ideal proportion to the weight of the remaining fruit, whereas in the other older vintages, I found the acidity to stand out a bit more than ideal. Mint, fresh roses, dried red cherry, and earth flow across the palate, ending in a resounding and long finish.
