Tuesday, May 20, 2014 - This is an intriguing and different wine. First time I've had a non-sparkling meunier. The nose is fascinating with lots of smoky, sauvage, and gamey notes with underlying tart red cherry and flint. With air the cherry broadens and the sauvage starts to fade. The palate is really bright with acidity and tart cherry with some underlying earth. Finishes a little short with the acid dominating. Overall this is good to drink and very different. If served with a richer dish that will mellow the acid I think this would be outstanding. I had a glass with some rich and meaty rillettes de canard that was delicious. Didn't pair so well with a tomato based pasta dish for glass 2. Definitely worth trying if you can find it.
