Sunday, April 26, 2009 - Consumed in a vertical tasting with the 2001 Insignia, paired with buffalo ribeye in a somewhat spicy seasoning. The 2001 was complex with a lot of subtle and varied flavor notes, but minimal remaining tannins, and probably at the peak of its suitability for consumption for my palate. In contrast, the 2002 still had strong tannins with the potential for continued aging. Both were outstanding wines, but the 2001 had enough subtlety that I would have enjoyed it more by itself than paired with a seasoned steak, while the 2002 stood up quite nicely to the hint of cayenne.
