While a bit of oxidation can add welcome complexity, this was progressively over-the-top. Despite that, there was excellent fruit underneath. And with champagne, you can usually tell how it had been stored and due to the excellent froth and mousse I was confident it was well cared for. Far from the usual easy and gentle flavors of young Cristal. I believe the performance was secondary to this rather blowsy vintage.
