Monday, January 7, 2013 - Disclaimer: I am being far too harsh in hoping that this wine be like a Burgundy on some level. I have a hard time imagining anyone missing the fruit here...it still shows that inescapable jammy, cola aroma that most domestic Pinot Noir does, which always makes me wonder if it's something indigenous to CA or OR, or maybe drip irrigation, plus maybe some rootstock or clonal thing, or, if it's simply grower's choice vis à vis ripeness levels at picking. To me, this is a pretty quaffer, with some riper, larger aromas (like cola and jammy strawberry and dark cherry), alongside some cooler aromas, say rose petals and unripe plum, which linger in the background. Those two last elements prove a saving grace that allow me to continue drinking. Wonder if this is a blend of parcels which ripened differently? Anyhow: respect to Kenny the winemaker, as this blows the balls off of so many stickier, hotter, shoddier domestic PNs. That this wine has any sense whatsoever of leanness is an accomplishment..that it's enjoyable at $20 to start off with is already killing it vs so much crap out there.
