Sunday, September 14, 2014 - Level an inch below neck.
Dark colour, brownish hue.
Sweet, deep intense nose of coffee, roast earth, tar, licorice and some cassis. Extremely secondary, but very fragrant classic tobacco leaf.
Rich, sweet red fruits, dominated by coffee, tobacco leaf, toffee, tar and licorice. Smooth, not at all aggressive in acid and with defined but soft tannin, so not just oxidated, but clearly some oxidative elements. Still very drinkable, the secondary characters blew off to an extent, with the fruit coming through nicely.
i have had some magnificent old '70 L-Bs but I suspect they were drunk more like 10 years ago. A better fill level might have more success but this isn't bad at all.
