Tuesday, January 31, 2012 - An absolutely wonderful effort, the 2009 Cuvée du Vatican Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Réserve Sixtine exhibits a very aromatic nose full of peach, lemon curs, apricot and red Christmas tea(!). The wine is made from 100 percent Roussanne which is very evident as soon as you taste the wine. There is a very typical viscosity and an elegant creamy oily touch, but also a very expressive oak tone - maybe due to youth? The acidity is a true plus which together with a nice overall balance tips this effort into the "lower 90-ies" for me. The end finish is a bit short, but the overall impression is truly positive.
