90 Points

Friday, January 13, 2023 - In my cellar since release. Decanted at 5:30 and tasted from about 8 until 11pm. This was quite oaky still from the first taste and only gave way a little after another hour. All the telltale oak flavors/aromas were there… vanilla, cedar, tobacco. It was a little more red fruited and distinctly garnet with very little sign of its 21+ years. Oak tannins also a little obvious. Old school Silver Oak that was borderline over done (this was the first vintage made just after the Justin Meyer Era as he sold his shae in the winery in Jan 2001). Much like the vintages of the last 20 years or so for me this is a little hard to say is balanced. Better with food. Least interesting red tonight. And I always seem to find the Alexander Valley Cru more fun to drink and better aging.
