2011 Sheldrake Point Riesling

Thursday, November 17, 2016 - PnP at cellar temperature. Pours medium gold, showing its >4 years of bottle age. Some Sauternes-like qualities on the nose, including honey, beeswax, braised pears, petrol, and apricot. Full-flavored on the attack with beeswax, honey, and orchard fruits coming forward. A drying acidic streak kicks in on the midpalate, giving the impression of honeyed pineapple and neatly concealing the 2.4% RS. The acid dwindles heading into the finish, which becomes increasingly complex with honey, beeswax, and dried fruits persisting for a while.

This is in pretty stark disagreement with some recent notes that said that this wine had diminished sructure and was past-peak. This bottle was drinking well, possibly at peak. Worth a shot if you can find it. "Excellent," 91/100.
