Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 9 further bottles ruined by secondary fermentation. Apparently a crucial filter at the winery was defective, but the failure only seems to have affected a batch bottled for the German market. Boy did this stuff fizz on the way down the kitchen sink!

10/5/2013 3:41:00 PM - Hi Promethean Fire, I bought 12 bottles from Silke's Weinkeller. Apparently there were 3 lots bottled with the black label for the German market of which two lots were spoiled and one lot was OK. Confusingly, all three lots are labeled "Lot 1"! I'd recommend trying a bottle —the flaw is completely obvious, as the wine if spoiled will taste fizzy, yeasty, bready in a nasty kind of way.
If you bought from Silke Spruch they are fully aware of the problem and agreed to replace my bottles without demur; if you purchased spoiled bottles from another source you should definitely complain to the retailer. It might help to quote the following apology from the winery which was quoted in an Email from Silke's Weinkeller to its customers about this issue:
“Mein Name ist Jacopo Renzetti, ich bin kaufmännischer Leiter von Celler Cal Pla.
Ich schreibe Ihnen heute, da wir uns bei Ihnen dafür entschuldigen möchten, dass bei der Abfüllung des Mas d’en Compte Schwarze Schiefer 2010 ein technischer Fehler aufgetreten ist, der bei einem Teil der abgefüllten Weine die Lagerfähigkeit und die Weinqualität beeinträchtigen kann.
Es ist uns als Spitzenerzeuger sehr unangenehm, dass Sie durch uns eventuell Unannehmlichkeiten hatten. Bedenkend, dass wir immer aus unseren Fehlern lernen, können wir Ihnen hiermit garantieren, dass die Abfüllung des nächsten Jahrgangs vom Mas d’en Compte Schwarzer Schiefer 2011 wieder von ausnahmslos perfekter Qualität sein wird!
Wir hoffen sehr, dass Sie uns unseren Fehler verzeihen können und nicht das Vertrauen in unsere Kellerei verlieren, die Jahr für Jahr die höchsten Auszeichnungen der besten Weinkritiker erhält.
