Sunday, September 4, 2016 - B90; G10; 4.5+8.5+4.5+8*+8*+4*+4*=92+; Did not decant and it took well over an hour for this to show off its full richness. Deep black color; dark berry abounds with sense of richness starting with the aroma and carrying through to the flavor and finish. Pure silk mouthfeel with soft tannin, moderate acidity. Flavors are abundant and layered: blackberry, black cherry, black pepper, ripe fig, dark chocolate, cassis, rich sweet baking spices, licorice, vanilla... Just a very complex and smooth big wine at 14.9% alc. Certainly not for everyone, and a challenge to find the right food to pair. I think a rich red Bolognese, maybe nachos. OK with steak, but a good Cab is much better choice. Likely to still have several years of cellar time, but would recommend you sample what you have because it might need drinking!
