Thursday, May 1, 2014 - Almost black in color. Monumental in the glass. The nose is complex with truffles, red berries, smoke and bay leaves. On the palate this is granite-like and years from its peak but with some coaxing shows all of the potential of this powerful wine. Deep flavors of black cherries, exotic spices and firm, smoky minerals flow over the tongue in this gorgeously delineated and layered wine. Big and burly but also fine and elegant at the same time, this feels like a coiled animal of immense power and grace holding back its secrets for another day. This will need many years but there is no doubting that it will take its place among the greatest vintages of this wine. 98+
