Friday, January 27, 2017 - A traditionalist Savagnin, aged for 36 months under yeast voile. 13% alcohol.

Straw yellow color. Complex and classically styled Jura nose with wonderfully savory aromas of chopped nuts, tangy aldehydic saline tones, curry spice, a little bit of roasted almonds, a little bit of hay and a sharp hint of green apples. The wine is ripe, broad and quite concentrated for a Savagnin, favoring richness and roundness over lean fruit and precision. There are flavors of white peach, some apple jam, a little bit of stony minerality, a little bit of sorrel and a saline hint of aldehydic tang. There's a hint of oxidative nuttiness and the wine shows a little bit of that sherried aldehydic sharpness, but overall the wine is quite round and mellow on the palate with its moderately high acidity - that feels relatively low for a Savagnin. The finish is rich, long and complex with persistent flavors of ripe red apples, some oxidative nutty tones, a little bit of saline aldehydic tang, a hint of sorrel and a touch of green almonds.

A wonderfully rich and complex Jura white that is stylistically like a baby Vin Jaune. Shows the richness and fruit that is typical of Arbois, but it seems a bit emphasized here - perhaps due to the warmer vintage? Overall very lovely and complex with lots of depth and good intensity. Drinking beautifully now, but shows good potential for further development. Will keep for years more. Recommended.
