Sunday, April 17, 2011 - What can one say? A wine of this breeding n this vintage should be a knock out. Apart from the bad years of 1967-74,they have been some of the best wines I have had--especially the 1959 and 1961The tell tale bouquet of violets and incredibly rich fruits, the perfumed expansive nose, the deep rich Paulliiac palate with purple fruit and and endless finish, are not forgotten.. [The 1994 has been disappointing but I attributed t hat solely to the crop]. So I expected a youngish but blow-out wine. This is probably a great wine. But it is not showing through the still somewhat closed and slightly alcoholic veil yet. I let it breathe in a decanter for 3 hours and tried it regularly from a half hour on. By thee ed, there was not a lot left in terms of essence. Other 1989s,such as the Cos, have been very slow to come around, so that may be what is happening here.I used to decant the 66s for 4 hours but do not suggest tha t here. Wait at least 3-5 years
