Saturday, February 14, 2015 - Good colour, only a trace of brick on the rim. Good legs. Striking fruity nose when first opened and decanted.
After 2h, blackcurrant and 'toffee' on the nose. Decent fruit, still, but tasting a bit thinner than expected. Fruit seemed to be more red than black on the palate. Some fruitcake early on and a little spice; 'dandelion and burdock' towards the end. With time in the glass, the herbal notes began to displace the fruit.
Soft tannins - more like almond skin.
After 3h with food (rare fillet), the wine opened up nicely. A very nice bottle but time to finish off our last couple of '96s.
