2001 Turley The White Coat

Community Tasting Note

Thursday, February 4, 2010 - I was very interested in how this wine would be, given the two sides in the tasting notes "Way past its prime" vs. "Not at all past its prime". I think both are right. Its drastically different than the young white coats. From what I understand, this is a feature of the Rousanne grape. Good in youth, then shuts down, then different but good with age.

It has a strong yellow color. I remarked that it looked like caramel or gold. My wife thought it looked like pee. Strong melons with caramel on the palate. Tasty, but also pretty flabby. I liked it, but not as much as in its youth. My wife really didn't care for it. Withholding a score, since its a confusing bottle, but if I had to give it a score based on this showing, I'd say 88.
