Wednesday, September 3, 2008 - Ok, it's oaked. A lot. Big, enticing nose of dark fruits, soy sauce, spice/bitters, trace of garrigue-ish funk, mint. It's meaty and a bit cloying on the palate, with sleek tannins but not quite enough freshness to be truly great. Maybe if/when the oak integrates, it'll seem more balanced. Maybe not, though -- this is a freakish vintage, evidenced by the 15% abv on the label, so it may never really get there.
