Monday, May 4, 2015 - Moderately translucent dark cherry red with a hint of developed maroon hue. Somewhat shy nose with restrained aromas of tangy red berries, some dusty earth, light savory wood tones and hint of black cherries. The wine is dry, lively and pretty rich on the palate with moderately full-body and pretty fruit-driven flavors of ripe red fruits, sour cherry bitterness, some earthy spice, a little bit of tart cranberry and a hint of savory wood spice. The wine is moderately high in acidity with quite grippy medium-plus tannins. A decent and pretty balanced WA Sangiovese that is surprisingly recognizable example of the variety, showing good sense of sour cherry character, acidity and tannins without too much obfuscating oak. However, the wine drinks more like a good warm-vintage Chianti Classico, but it is priced more like a Riserva Brunello. This is a pleasant and well-made effort, but at 44,90€ it definitely doesn't show good value: unless I want to have something atypical - Sangiovese from Washington - I have no good explanation why I'd buy this over any good Chianti Classico or Brunello.
