Tuesday, May 26, 2015 - Pale cherry red in color. Delicious, inviting nose that combines bright red cherry and raspberry fruit with some sweet cinnamon baking spice and a slightly smoky-herbal savory character, like seared meat and rosemary, that reminds me of a pork roast. With air, the rosemary and smoke develop and grows into more of a fragrant evergreen and earth smell, like a forest in the winter. There are fresh and dried roses in there too. A really surprisingly good and layered nose; the only detractor is a prickle of alcohol. Really good on the palate too—the fruit is juicy but still with a just-ripe bite of acid, the spice comes through very well, and the finish is quite dry and quite long, leaving behind mostly cherry juice and cinnamon. The tannins are mild but just present enough and silky-refined, and the texture is light and smooth.

This is really, really good for the money in an absolute sense, and frankly unbelievably good value in Burgundy. Well made, well balanced pinot with some character and complexity. Wish I had more.
