90 Points

Saturday, October 4, 2014 - This was great right upon opening, exhibiting a silky mouthfeel on top of a medium-full body. Then it started breaking down after sitting in the glass for more than 30 minutes, becoming increasingly acidic. The wine left in the bottle fared better, exhibiting notes of bell pepper, citrus and some smoke on the nose, and bell pepper and tart currants on the palate, as well as more (understated) bell pepper notes on the finish. After about 75 minutes the nose started developing a very intriguing smoky character which after some pondering I could identify as reminiscent of the bouquet of some more balanced Islay scotches. The peaty notes on the nose then got increasingly stronger, while the flavors on the palate became more and more hollow.
Quite fun and terribly quaffable overall, especially as a pop-and-pour, but pretty overpriced otherwise. Nevertheless, it may prove to turn into an interesting beast 8+ years down the line.
