2011 Herman Story Syrah Nuts & Bolts

91 Points

Friday, September 5, 2014 - So I smuggled my last bottle of 2011 N&B down to Aruba to drink on vacation.

PNP--A little mustiness on opening (something I have never really encountered with one of Russell's wines). Further aromas of tar, fruit punch, bramble, spice box. The fruit seems a little deflated here on the palate (not as robust as previous bottles) and finds the heat on the finish. The mustiness makes this initially seem like it leans toward an old world wine.

After 1.5 hours: Much better and more focused (mustiness has blown off). Fruit arrived into a linear palate and a long finish. Not as much dimension as the last bottle. Last bottle was a 93, this is 91+. This should easily hold up for another 5 years.

Final Words: Still good, but a bit different than the last bottle.
