Sunday, March 16, 2014 - Delicious and very satisfying, a definite candidate for casehood. It's still a bit green but all the elements are right there. Lately I've been wanting to throw myself at the feet of the god of grenache- and this is no exception- and the cofermentation with mouvedre and syrah, stems and all, makes for a very distinctive wine with purple fruit, rocks and dirt, very chocolatey, smokey, and just the right amount of tarry licoriced animal, but not the least bit cloying. Wonderful medium weight wine, with that mystical quality you often find in a really good Gigondas. It proves my theory that 40 is the new 20-- not that long ago this is what you'd expect in a carefully chosen $20 bottle; now it's $40.
