Very interesting spicy/herbal nose that combines bright young berry fruit with cinnamon and nutmeg, but also a smokey/savory/meaty character and some floral lift. Blind, I think I would peg this as a southern Rhone or Languedoc wine based on Grenache and Carignan. On the palate, though, the high acid kills that illusion. The fruit flavors are of blackberry and plum, and it has an aggressive side of smoked herb and earth. Good freshness on the finish, along with moderate but chalky tannin and some more herb. This is not a subtle or shy wine---it shows you what it has and turns the volume up. But there's nothing wrong with that, and the balance is good, as is the value. Nice ballsy wine for similar cuisine, music, or company.
