Sunday, June 3, 2012 - It seemed to me that most people liked the '73 better (though it could be one of those instances where everyone automatically likes the older wine better) but I thought this was more unique and interesting. While the fruit was certainly there with signature notes of prune, fig and cherry, it was the non-fruit notes that really caught my eye; notes of thyme, wet herbs, dill, mint, djarum cigarettes, truffles, mushroom and wet leaves. The palate is medium bodied and much of the tannin has dissolved so, while the wine does seem to lack a touch of structure, it is still holding strong, though I would drink now.
